Ultrasound Artifacts
Every artifact is a visible consequence of an assumption the scanner is forced to make. Learn the assumptions framework, the propagation and attenuation/resolution artifacts, how to confirm and eliminate each — and which artifacts are diagnostically useful.
2 lessons · ~75 min · level: intermediate
- 1Propagation Artifacts & the Assumptions Framework~40 minThe assumptions the beamformer makes, then the propagation artifacts they create: reverberation, comet-tail vs ring-down, mirror image, refraction/edge shadowing, speed error, range ambiguity, and side vs grating lobes.
- 2Attenuation & Resolution Artifacts (and the Useful Ones)~35 minClean vs dirty shadowing, posterior enhancement, beam-width and slice-thickness pseudosludge, anisotropy, the twinkling artifact, and a summary of which artifacts are diagnostically useful.
